“Every year, Prairie Five receives funding from the Department of Commerce, who in turn gets it from the US Departments of Energy and Health and Human Services, to help low-income households get their homes ready for the upcoming Minnesota winter.

The program costs around $7,000, and includes work such as insulating attics and walls, air sealing, furnace and water heater repairs or replacement, and some health and safety repairs. What is weatherized is determined by a certified inspector.”
