“Homeowners are being warned by the Better Business Bureau that some contractors may use scare tactics to convince people into authorizing unnecessary repairs.
BBB officials say while most furnace companies are reputable and fair, there are some who may falsely tell you your furnace needs to be repaired or replaced when it really doesn’t.
In addition, the BBB says the companies may try to scare you with warnings of your system leaking dangerous gases that could explode or poison anyone inside your home.
In order to avoid unnecessary work, officials say you should stay calm and get a second opinion from another reputable company to see if the work does need to be done.”

If repairs are needed, you’re well within your rights to get multiple estimates. If the diagnosis between these repair companies aren’t closely aligned, one or more of them might be trying to take advantage. It’s also important that you aren’t “oversold” a new furnace that is unnecessary for smaller-sized homes.
